For the past few weeks, I have been reading up on yoga and yogic traditions. It's always refreshing to me to brush up my knowledge on the things I embrace in my life. Ever since the move here, I have been inspired to read more, research more, and try new things. It's amazing how certain places or things can inspire us. Anyway, today I stumbled upon this youtube video that was posted by one of my favorite Art History professors. I really was pleased to see this newly discovered form of art. It took me back to my middle school days of being bored and class and drawing pictures and designs on the edges of my books. Of course, my drawings were not anywhere near as elaborate as these paintings, but I felt like I could relate to those artists. Were these artists so inspired by what they were reading that they felt the need to reward the book with some artwork? Were these artists taking reading breaks from a wondering mind or tired eyes? Or were these artists just poor and in need of some free canvases? Whatever their reasons, no one will ever know why they decided to paint on these specific books. It is interesting to say the least. Books contain such powerful words to help inform, entertain, inspire, or to help us escape our own realities. What a beautiful setting for inspired imagery! This video really makes me wonder what inspires me and why? What inspires you?

← First off, I have to tell you about the Green Smoothie I made this morning! I finally received all of my personal belongings from our cross-country move, and one of those items that I was thrilled to unpack was my VITAMIX!!! It has been a long 2 months of me living without my precious blender. Once you get used to drinking Green Smoothies 4-7 days a week, it is not the same without it. So, let me share with you my creative blend of the day: Just in case you haven't heard.. it's Veganpalooza time!! Veganpalooza is an online event that hosts guest speakers to cover topics such as veganism, food safety, environmental issues and health. Please take a moment to check it out! Veganpalooza Website.
I will be giving you some feedback from the event and share my experience afterwards. I also have some exciting news and updates to share with you next week! Until then, please remember to show compassion, love, and respect for this planet and it's creatures. -Lorel

Aloha! Today I had the pleasure of practicing yoga on the beach! It was a great way to hit my "reset" button, so to speak. There is something about breathing in the fresh sea air, feeling the sea breeze against your skin, and wiping sand off of your body that just brings you back down to Earth. We all get in a routine in some form or another in life, whether it is with your yoga practice, eating habits or daily exercise. Isn't it nice to change things up once in a while? If you haven't tried yoga on the beach, it is actually quite fun and challenging! I feel like MOST physical exercises like yoga, volleyball, running, riding a bicycle, gymnastics, and even walking can be more of a challenge on the beach! So, I decided to write this blog post about yoga on the beach and offer a few helpful tips for the varying elements you might experience on the beach. Personally, I have only practiced yoga on the beach about 6 or 7 times, which doesn't seem like a lot, but during those adventures at the beach I was able to pick up on a few helpful tips. (Continue Reading) What an exciting weekend!! This past weekend was the first time we actually took the time to travel the island. We started off by heading towards Waikiki on Saturday to meet up with my husband's ol' high school buddy. He was very kind and welcomed us to that side of the island by taking us on a mini-tour of Waikiki Beach Walk. We stopped and ate some amazing sushi, then we finished up our visit by paddle boarding at Waikiki Beach. I have never gone paddle boarding before and it was a BLAST! The most exciting part for me was seeing several sea turtles swim near me. They were very large sea turtles and had such a majestic presence in the water. (Continue Reading) We are headed for Honolulu today. We haven't spent much time on that side of the island, so it should be interesting. I keep hearing about Waikiki, so hopefully we can stumble over there today. Looking forward to the great weather this weekend! I hope that you have a great weekend. Maybe you have your weekend stacked full of chores, maybe you have your weekend planned for fun, but whatever plans you do have remember to enjoy yourself and love those surrounding you!

Aloha!!! I have moved to the lovely state of Hawaii and I could not be happier!! It has been a very challenging transition getting everything organized and moved, but it is so worth the hassle!! We should be moving into an apartment in the next couple of weeks. I have been thinking about my new life here on the island and what I want to be doing with myself. Yoga is a given here on the island. There are so many studios around here and so many wonderfully inspiring places to practice my yoga. I also want to continue teaching in the local setting and I hope to apply for teaching positions at the local studios in the next couple of months. More currently... (Continued) So I am taking a little poll to see who might be interested in taking a class with me via skype. Several people have contacted me inquiring about skype yoga since my recent relocation, and I wanted to do a quick poll to see how many of you might be interested. Voting is completely anonymous btw. I would probably offer Skype Yoga a few days a week, and I am currently trying to figure out what times would work best. Please take a moment to share your thoughts or submit your vote. Thank you and happy voting!! -Lorel "The person whose mind is free from anxiety about sorrows, and free from greed for pleasures, with rage, passion and fear gone, whose thoughts are firm, that one is said to be sage."
-The Bhagavad Gita Yesterday I pushed myself to practice yoga for 2.5 hours, since I haven't been able to practice for a week. As I rest and restore from my soreness, I stumbled across this quote from this book I picked up last week. This is such a humbling quote for me right now. We have been looking for places to live this week, and we keep talking about what we need, desire, or feel entitled to have at our residence. It's funny how we sometimes get wrapped up with what we think or feel, and we often forget to just absorb "what is" and where we are in our lives and just be present. Try to free yourself from your thoughts and your emotions at some point today. It can be really refreshing. |
